CHED Regional Assembly: Strengthening Academic–Industry Synergy in Region XII
The CHED Soccksargen Regional Assembly, Forum, and Election was held on September 26, 2025 at Notre Dame of Dadiangas University, General Santos City, bringing together deans and program heads from Business and Hospitality programs across Region XII. With the theme “Synergy in Education: Bridging Academia and Industry,” the event provided a collaborative platform to discuss curriculum reforms, industry expectations, and strategies to better equip graduates for a changing workforce.
The forum emphasized the urgent need to align academic instruction with the competencies required by employers today. Dr. Monsour A. Pelmin of Mindanao State University highlighted the importance of embedding leadership, organizational culture, and strategic thinking in business programs using the I³ Framework (Inspiration, Information, Intimidation). Meanwhile, Ms. Jannie B. Natividad, entrepreneur and owner of Chaiwan Booba Tea Shop, stressed communication, customer engagement, and adaptability as key skills that determine workplace success.
Participants recognized that although students gain technical knowledge in school, many still lack essential soft skills such as communication, critical thinking, and adaptability. To address these gaps, the forum encouraged institutions to enrich elective offerings in communication, leadership, entrepreneurship, and organizational behavior. These enhancements are expected to strengthen students’ readiness for real-world business environments.
The event also featured the regional election of new CHED Business Education officers, bringing together representatives from schools across Region XII. The newly elected officers are expected to spearhead regional initiatives focused on curriculum enhancement, faculty development, and deeper industry partnerships. The assembly concluded with acknowledgments and a renewed commitment to collaborative academic advancement.
