President's Cup Highlights Fr. Jon's Birthday
It was not a typical day for the NDMC community to gather at Bulwagang Genoveva Deles Jaranilla on December 13, 2019. It was not just a usual Eucharistic celebration that is traditionally practiced by everyone. It was a double festivity because the day is also the thanksgiving mass for the 55th birthday of the NDMC President- Fr. Jonathan R. Domingo, OMI.
Bouquet of flowers, gifts, warm hugs and kisses flooded the birthday celebrant to which he reciprocated by announcing the suspension of classes. The crowd, though anticipating for the announcement was ecstatic and excited.
The launching of NDMC President’s Cup 2019 followed which anchored on its theme ‘Sustainable Community Development through Sports’. The opening program started with the parade of the nine participating teams. The delegates come from the DepEd, Southern Christian College, Archdiocesan Shrine of Sr. Sto Niño, National Irrigation Administration (NIA), Notre Dame of Midsayap Personnel Association (NDMPA), Notre Dame of Midsayap College Alumni Association, LGU MIdsayap, Midsayap Bankers’ Association and Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation.
Members of the Kapisanan ng mga Basketbolista sa Pilipinas acted as officials of the event. The monumental tournament was under the helm of Mr. Rey Postrado, NDMC IBED-SFO as the over-all organizer of the first ever President’s Cup.
Alfredo I. Aurena, Jr., the Executive Assistant Sports Development, and Merlene Biadnes, Liaison Officer of Gov. Catamco graced the celebration representing North Cotabato Governor Nancy Catamco. Governor Catamco is the supportive partner of the said undertaking. The President’s Cup officially opens that day and will culminate on February 17, 2020 in time for the Oblates’ Day celebration.
The celebration continues with the blessing of newly renovated college canteen. With its plush interior, tasteful lighting, ventilation and newly painted food counter, it is sure to imbibe stomach refill.
Unknown to Fr. Domingo who was still at the College Canteen, the NDMC personnel was up to surprise him with a bacchanalian feast. Upon his entry to the Primera Function Hall, he was met with poppers, applause and cheers – he was in for a sure surprise. A tribute of dances and melodies were specially performed for the birthday celebrator. A hearty lunch was shared by the NDMC community after the dance medley.
