Understanding the Teenage Brain: A Parenting Seminar for Growth and Guidance at NDMC
On August 16, 2025, Notre Dame of Midsayap College (NDMC), through its Guidance Office and Testing Center, conducted a Parenting Seminar at the NDMC Bulwagang Genoveva Deles-Jaranilla. The morning session, “Effective Formation: Setting Boundaries and Encouraging Good Behavior,” and the afternoon session, “Understanding the Teenage Brain: Why They Do What They Do,” provided parents with meaningful insights into the complexities of adolescent growth and behavior.
The event formally opened with messages from Mr. Joel P. Asa, LPT, Assistant Principal for the Grade School Department, and Ms. Aileen D. Escote, LPT, MAED, Assistant Principal for Senior High School, who underscored the importance of parental involvement in shaping the youth. Resource speakers Maria Fe S. Mahinay, MAGC, RGC, RPm; William S. Candido, MAGC, RGC; and Elnied Calunsag, RPsy, RPm, CHRA, guided participants through the neurological and psychological developments of adolescents. A Question-and-Answer segment enriched the discussion, followed by the awarding of certificates and evaluation of the morning session.
The afternoon resumed with practical strategies in addressing teenage challenges, reinforcing the parents’ role as primary mentors during their children’s formative years. In her closing message, Mrs. Chinitt P. Sinco, LPT, MIB, IBED Principal, emphasized the shared responsibility of the school and parents in supporting learners’ holistic development.
The program concluded with the singing of Notre Dame, Our Mother. Serving as Masters of Ceremony were Zyjce Pascual and Rocelle Villarta, whose professionalism ensured the smooth flow of the event. More than a lecture, the seminar became an avenue for parents to reflect, reconnect, and be equipped with valuable guidance in navigating the journey of adolescence with their children.
