NDMC Joins PGCA National Midyear Convention in Tagbilaran, Bohol

Representatives from the Guidance and Testing Center of Notre Dame of Midsayap College (NDMC), together with three faculty members from the College of Arts and Sciences, participated in the 60th Philippine Guidance and Counseling Association, Inc. (PGCA) National Midyear Convention held on October 23–24, 2025, in Tagbilaran, Bohol. With the theme “PGCA Legacy: Stories to Conquer New Glories,” the event gathered mental health professionals, educators, and student services practitioners from across the country.

The first day of the convention was held at the Bohol Tropics Resort, where attendees engaged in plenary sessions focused on the evolving role of counselors, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the enhancement of mental health services. Highlights included the Oath Taking for New Guidance Counselors, updates from the Professional Regulatory Board of Guidance and Counseling, and organizational discussions led by PGCA officials.

Throughout the day, participants attended expert-led plenaries tackling evidence-based counseling tools, trends in psychological services, and best practices in educational guidance. These sessions provided deeper awareness of modern counseling approaches and enriched the participants’ understanding of their professional responsibilities.

On the second day, the activities shifted to the Holy Spirit School of Tagbilaran, where delegates joined specialized workshops under Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced levels. Topics included family sculpting, the empty chair technique, existential humanistic counseling, culturally responsive mental health practices, and the use of AI tools for counseling-related research. Each workshop allowed participants to enhance their practical skills and apply updated methodologies to real-world counseling work.

The two-day gathering served as a meaningful opportunity for NDMC’s representatives to strengthen their competencies, expand their professional network, and explore innovative strategies for student support services. The insights gained from the convention will significantly contribute to the institution’s ongoing efforts to improve guidance programs and holistic student development.
